How to make an Ivy Crop Top

If you need a sweet vintage top that is quick and easy to make, here is a tutorial on how to crop the Ivy Dress. Pair this with Powderpuff Pettiskirt child or doll for instant vintage charm. This combination makes the most darling outfit ever!

Follow the simple steps below to create your new outfit!

1/ Print and assemble your Ivy bodice pattern pieces.

2/ The first step is to extend the front and back bodice pieces to create extra length. Measure down and mark out 1.5”(3.8cm) - 2” (5cm) below the bottom of the bodice, depending on the size you are making.

Note: Ideally you would want the top to sit just below the child’s belly button, so it may be best to measure this before cutting your pieces.

3/ Once your pieces are marked out, cut out the new size.

4/Assemble your Ivy bodice as per the tutorial, pages 14 – 33.

5/ Create a memory crease at the bottom raw edge, on both the lining and main bodice, by folding both in 1/2”(1.3cm).

6/ Mark out your casings using the back pattern piece. With the added length you may find that you have extra room for an additional casing if you prefer.

7/ Follow the tutorial instructions for completing the casings on pages 34 through to 37. (The additional casing will create a more fitted look while the original casings create a more flared look).

8/ Fold in your memory crease along the hem (previously created in step 5) forming a 1/2” (1.3cm) hem. Topstitch 1/8” (4mm) from the bottom edge and you’re done!
