Garden Gnome and Mushroom

Once again, Ashley Culbertson (@Aaculbertson) has outdone herself with a gorgeous whimsical and unique costume! She loves the fanciful and forestry aspect of it. We especially love the mushroom hat, and of course, the beautiful details in the gnome dress!

Patterns: Pansy layered over Apple Berry top (Gnome); Sage Dress with extended tiered skirting (Mushroom)

Fabric: Corduroy, cotton, vintage ribbons and trims, gauze and felt

Woodland Fairy

Candice @sewing4wildflowers planned to make a snail costume for her youngest, and her eldest daughter wanted to match - as a  “woodland fairy with a fancy pet snail!" We adore this dress and the gorgeous wings Candice made with grapevines, and can't wait to see the pet snail!

Pattern: Rosemary front bodice and sleeves with Juniper back

Fabric: Embroidered and sequin Tulle overlays (JoAnn Fabric), cotton and nude tulle (hobby lobby)

Pirates!

Shortly before the call for character week was announced, Emily Hartman's (@emily_sews_stuffdaughter Juliet told her she wanted to dress up like pirates with her neighborhood girl gang. This is one of Emily's favorite Halloween group dress-up themes—they did it once before when her eldest was preschool age, but hasn’t since her youngest, Juliet, was born. Even her husband, who doesn’t dress up, is willing to dress up like a pirate!

Patterns: Jasmine, Wattle, Pepper, Peach, Lantana

Fabric: gauze, velvet, cotton woven (JoAnn Fabric), pleather (knitfabric.com), and stretch velvet (JoAnn Fabric), Cotton Lycra (Purple Seamstress)

Halloween Witch

Baylee Rae's daughter, Wren, loves Halloween, and has been saying she wants to be a witch for Halloween since March. They both fell in love with all the classic Halloween colors, and Baylee wanted it to be a little special with fun colors peeking out!  We love the styling on this one!

Patterns: Dahlia, Wisteria, Powderpuff

Fabric: Hobby Lobby

Vampire Bat

Yulia Ashirova (@berriesandpetals) created a Vampire Bat costume for her daughter, who requested a spooky but cute costume with a mix fuchsia and black!

Patterns: Apple Berry, Wattle, Bellflower Capelet, Peach

Fabric: Triple satin, organza, stretch velvet

Frida Kahlo

Eep! I'm so excited to see this one! Dulce (@deileenslittlecloset) created this wonderful Frida Kahlo costume for her daughter! Her favorite thing about this costume was that she had to use color. She was inspired by Kahlo's paintings and her wardrobe as well. Dulce also loved being able to incorporate Kahlo's iconic look of flowers on her hair.

Patterns: Lily, Juniper

Fabric: cotton (Hobby Lobby)

Mary Cassatt

Natasha Tung (@auschicksews) - So I have a thing for art, and am trying to raise my kids to appreciate the arts more than I do! Each year, my daughter gets to dress as a famous character for a history day at school, and this year she chose Mary Cassatt. There are a couple of self portraits of Cassat, so we used one of them for inspiration.

Pattern: Acacia

Fabric: cotton shirting (Fabric Place Basement)

Swan Lake

Lindsay Jones (@twin_needle_sewingenjoys coming up with costume ideas for her identical twins that have symbolism to them being twins. She selected Odette (white swan) and Odile (black swan) from Swan Lake Ballet. In the production, the twin-like characters are often performed by a single principal ballerina, portraying protagonist and antagonist roles. As her girls have fallen in love with dance over the last year, Lindsay chose a costume that shows their love for dance, and harnesses their identical attributes to create the character roles of these two women.

Patterns: Calliandra, Mimosa, Buttercup romper

Fabric: organza, tulle, knit for appliqué, chiffon, feathers and stones (Hobby Lobby)
