Welcome to Wedding Week!

Posted by Natasha Tung on

Hello Peony Fans! This is Nat (AusChick Sews) and I'm super excited to be hosting Peony Patterns' first Wedding Week! Here in the Northern Hemisphere, wedding season is right around the corner, so if you're a bride (or groom!)-to-be, or you have a child intent on all the fancy, gorgeous dresses, then *this* is the week for you! Each day we'll be sharing incredible projects sewn up by our talented pattern testing team - many created with minimal changes to our patterns. What does this mean for you? Even though the dresses you'll see this week are jaw-droppingly stunning, with a little patience, a beginner can create the dress of their dreams too! Be sure to join our Facebook Group to see even more pictures of your favourite creations this week!

Yami Laguardia (Ivy Dress)

Yami just blew us away with this stunning floor length gown with lace sponsored by Farmhouse Fabrics. She added the beautiful shoulder detail, and a ruffle along the bottom of the maxi dress. Wow!

We're always captivated by Yami's creations, and Farmhouse Fabrics is certainly the best place to source all the wonderful heirloom material!
Farmhouse Fabrics are based in South Carolina, USA and ship worldwide. Their twice-weekly Gab & Gush Facebook show is a great way to find out about their new products!
Angie Chia (Banksia Dress)
We love this sweet and simple vintage-length Banksia dress from Angie! She envisioned an ethereal dress, and achieved it with a combination of chiffon, tulle, pongee lining, cotton slub/cotton silk fabrics. The only changes she made was adding double shoulder flutters and tulle layers in the skirt.
Tip! Angie suggests reducing the stitch length and tension when sewing lightweight fabrics such as chiffon and tulle. She also recommends French Seams on these fabrics, and an overlocker/serger rolled hem for the flutters and skirt hem.
Kimberly Seegmiller (Gardenia Dress)
Using fabric leftover from her youngest sister's wedding party dresses, Kimberly thought it would be fun to create a fancy dress for her lovely daughter! Kimberly made some simple modifications to the original Gardenia pattern, raising the back neckline, omitting the back ruffle, and cutting the Gardenia sleeves with the lace selvedge scallops as the hemline.
We just love this look so much! (Fabric: Hobby Lobby)
Bec Smith (Lily Dress + Hyacinth Dress)
Bec has blown us away this week with not one, but THREE incredible looks. Stay tuned for the rest in the coming days! We just adore this breathtaking Bridgerton inspired dress she created for her daughter, using a shortened Lily bodice, Hyacinth sleeves, and a self drafted maxi skirt. She used upcycled satin and georgette linings from a dress she found at a thrift store (op shop), and an embroidered tulle overlay.
This would be a perfect dress for a junior bridesmaid!
Bridgerton seems to be the theme of the season, as Daniela also took her inspiration from the series!
She used the Marigold neckline, Freesia bodice and skirt, and Jasmine sleeves, with a couple of other minor alterations. The skirt and bodice are made with brocade, and she used chiffon for the sleeves. To add volume to the skirt, Daniela added Horsehair Braid (HHB) and netting to the lining. Such a beautiful and twirly dress! This is definitely going to a favorite flower girl dress!
Tip! Daniela suggests cutting brocade with pinking shears to prevent fraying. She recommends silk pins and new microtex needles with a tiny stitch when sewing chiffon.
Juana Wallace (Myrtle Dress + Jasmine Dress + Yarrow Dress)
Juana's beautiful daughters remind us of paintings by Frida Kahlo with the addition of their gorgeous floral tiaras! To create this look, Juana attached up-sized Myrtle sleeves to a shortened Jasmine bodice and added a Yarrow ruffle skirt with extra length. The Glitterbug Satin and Crinkle Pearlized sheers are both from JoAnn.
We hope you've been delighted by these divine dresses this morning! Remember to check in tomorrow morning for more amazing creations! And remember to stock up on your favorite patterns during our Wedding Week sale! All patterns are 30% off until Sunday, May 1, 2022.
