Tell us a little bit about yourself...

Hey! My name is Juana. I’m a stay at home, special needs, homeschooling mama of 4. My husband and I have been together since we were kids in high school, and married for 16 years.

How did you learn to sew and when?

9 years ago I quit my job to care for Jaiyana who was born with half of a heart. After the hospital life had settled down I started making bows for Jaiyana. After a few months of hand sewing bows I bought a sewing machine and started to teach myself how to sew simple little things. I soon discovered pdf sewing patterns. At that time Google was my best friend as I had no idea what any of the sewing terminology meant! Soon enough I got the hang of it. It was amazing how a piece of fabric could be transformed into a beautiful garment! It’s been 7 years since I first picked up a needle and thread, and there’s no going back! Jaiyana has just started showing interest in sewing, and I look forward to teaching her.

What is your favourite type of fabric to work with?

Ooohh that’s a tough one! I’d say any and all wovens with a dash of sparkles.

Whats your favourite Peony make to date?

Poppy

What are your sewing goals for 2021?

To learn how to sew knits. We have a love hate relationship, but I am determined to master it!

What sewing tip have you learned along the way that you use all the time?

I always serge the hem of a dress, even though it’s not seen. It makes hemming a dress so much faster and accurate.

What is your biggest sewing achievement or challenge to date? Tell us about it!

Working from home sewing full time while being fully available for Jaiyana’s medical needs has been my greatest achievement.

What advice would you give to someone learning to sew?
Don’t give up!
