Welcome to our very first Meet the Maker blog! Our aim is to share a little insight into the sewing lives of our Peony Makers. This month we would love you to meet Sarah Guidry Riche! You can follow more of her work on Instagram @noraclairehandmade
Tell us a little bit about yourself...
Hi! My name is Sarah, I am a wife and mom of 3, Colin (6), Lucas (5), and Nora (2). I am also a full time HR manager. I am originally from Louisiana, but grew up a military brat and then ended back up in Louisiana for college. I met my husband and we had our children there as well. In 2019 we moved to Florida so that is where we are as of now! Sewing kind of became my mom hobby when my middle son was born and it has only grown over time! I don't sew as much for the boys anymore, but I would say 95% of Nora's wardrobe is made by me, which I am really proud of!! I recently started sewing a little for myself and I absolutely love it! I also love testing patterns and sharpening my sewing/photography skills!
How did you learn to sew and when?
What is your favourite type of fabric to work with?
Oooo, I started with wovens so they will always be my first love!! I really enjoy sewing with linen.
Whats your favourite Peony make to date?
Oh wow...this one is tough. I really think I have 3...the first one I ever made/tested is still probably my number 1 favorite. It was the Poppy romper with Briar embroidery. The Buttercup with Iris embroidery and my Jasmine/Poppy romper mash with the Holly embroidery are my other faves!!
What sewing tip have you learned along the way that you use all the time?
Always TWO rows of gathering stitches...ALWAYS!!!
What is your biggest sewing achievement or challenge to date? Tell us about it!
I don't have my own shop per say, but I do sew for friends and family occasionally. For a couple months I sewed some pieces for a boutique owned by a friend of mine. I was really proud of what I was able to accomplish and it was a great experience for me! Also, this isn't exactly sewing, but over the last 6 months I have learned photography and I am really proud of what I have accomplished so far in that aspect as well!
